Arta Vander Zwaag
Mrs. Arta Vander Zwaag, age 84, of Orange City, passed away Friday, November 30, at the Orange City Municipal Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness.Arta was born November 14, 1906, at Orange City, the daughter of Jacob Docter and Lillian Vander Maaten Docter. In earlier years, she was a school teacher. On January 15, 1931, she married Jacob P. Vander Zwaag at Orange City. They farmed in Sioux County, retiring in 1970. Mr. Vander Zwaag passed away August 18, 1980, at Sioux City. Mrs. Vander Zwaag then moved into Orange City. For the past five weeks, she was a patient at the nursing home.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church of Orange City and the Lydia Circle of the church. Survivors include her two sons, Peter Leo, of Orange City; and Ken, of Montrose, South Dakota; two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Lois) De Jong, of Orange City; and Mrs. Willard (Jackie) Punt, of Sheldon; sixteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; brother Andrew Docter, of Orange City; and three sisters, Gert Van Driel, of Rock Valley; Marge Hofmeyer, of Orange City; and Carrie Jonker, of Mesa, Arizona.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two grandsons, three brothers, and a sister. Funeral services were held Monday, December 3, at the First Reformed Church of Orange City, with the Rev. Steven Vander Molen officiating. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City..
