Dick Otten, 74, of Akron died Sunday, Nov. 19, 1995, at his home after a long illness.
Services were at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Hawarden Community Church with the Rev. David Tellinghuisen officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery with military graveside services by Hoschler Post 186, American Legion of Akron. Visitation was from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Mr. Otten was born Aug. 13, 1921, in Hudson, the son of Dirk and Grace (Nab) Otten. He married Elizabeth Van Veldhuizen June 10, 1959, at, Alvord. The couple fanned near Akron until 1983 when they retired, and moved to Akron in 1993. Mrs. Otten died Sept 14,1993.

Mr. Otten was a Marine veteran of World War II. He was wounded in Okinawa and received the Purple Heart Survivors include a son, Roger and his wife, Lynda of Akron; a grandson,
Brian Tillman of Akron; a brother, Mike of Alcester; and two sisters, Mrs. Virgil (Cora) Peterson of Hawarden and Anna Otten of Elk Point He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Gilbert, David and John and three sisters, Henrietta, Wilma and Bertha.

Pallbearers were Donald Van Veldhuizen, Jerry Kieft, Jerry and Butch Anderson, Dirk Peterson and Bryon Roggatz
