Paul Leo O'Meara, 72, of Hawarden, died Thursday, July 21,1994 at the Royal C. Johnson
Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, after a long illness. Services were held Monday, July 25 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hawarden with Mon signor Michael Sernett officiating. Burial took place in the Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden under the direction of the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.Mr. O'Meara was born Dec. 12, 1921 in Mc Nally, Iowa, the son of James and Joanna (Downs) O'Meara. He graduated from Hawarden High School in 1939. He served in the Army during World War II, including the Battle of the Bulge. He earned a Purple Heart. Following the war, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1947 to 1952. After the service, he drove trucks for various farmers and gravel pits in northwestern Iowa.
Mr. O'Meara was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Hawarden American Legion and D.A.V. Survivors include two brother, John of De Kalb, 111., and Robert of Sioux Falls, SD; five sisters, Eva Conway of Fullerton, Calif., Irene Graff of Granville, Iowa, Catherine LaVelle of Sioux City, Josephine Bandy of Dallas, Texas, and his twin sister, Pauline Petterson of Wichita, Kan.; and his Godmother, Bernice McCue of Alcester, SD.-
