Death Claims Mrs. Roelof Hoogland
The death of Mrs. Roelof Hoogland at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning at her farm home, 61 miles southwest of Ireton, from heart ailment and complications brought sadness to her many friends. She had been failing in health for some time trot was bedfast but two weeks preceding her death.

Funeral services will be held at the home at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon and at 2 o'clock in the church at Ireton. Burial will be made at Ireton. Maggie Ludens, daughter of Jacob Ludens and Nellie Roundhous Ludens, was born on the ocean in American waters March 16, 1867, while her parents were coming from Holland to America to make a new home here, so she had attained the age of 70 years, 9 months and 26 days. They located in Wisconsin. Her parents came to Orange City when she was a small-child and here she met Roelof Hoogland to whom she was later married. After her marriage she lived at Orange City for a time but in 1901 they moved to Yakima, Wash., where they remained until 1910 when they returned to Sioux county and purchased a farm south of Ireton. Later they purchased the farm where for the past 21 years they have lived.

Ten children were born to this union, one of whom died in infancy. The nine children, who with the husband, are left to mourn her death are Jake, Andrew and Ralph of Ireton; Mrs. Will Torwelle of Hawarden; Peter at home; Mrs. Henry Brafhart of Prairie City, Iowa; Walter of Rock Rapids, and Jean and Ted of Orange City. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mrs. Hoogland was a member of the First Reformed church since a girl and was a true Christian who loved her church. She was held in high esteem by all who knew her. She was a wife and mother who had the interests of her loved ones at heart, a neighbor and friend who could always be depended on. Her fine traits of character her thought for others and her interest in her home and family will long live in the memory of those loved ones who knew and felt her real spirit of service and sacrifice.
