Was Big Springs Pioneer and Former Hawarden Banker

Arvid H. Ring, a pioneer resident of Big Springs vicinity, passed away early Monday morning at the home of his niece, Mrs. Robert Hunter, at Riverside, Calif. Mr. Ring had been in poor health for many years but was in his usual health until Sunday when he suffered a stroke. Later he suffered a second stroke and passed away almost immediately after this.

Arvid Ring, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Ring, grew to young manhood on the home farm, west of Hawarden and had attained the age of about 70 years. He united with the Big Springs Baptist church in his youth and remained a faithful member until he left that community. After he left the farm he was employed in a bank at Alcester and later he came to Hawarden and together with his brother, Andrew Ring, operated the Hawarden State Bank for several years. Later a branch of the Hawarden State Bank was organized at Viborg, S. D., and Mr. Ring went there and was in charge of the bank until his health failed when he was compelled to retire from active work. This was about 25 years ago and he went to Glendale, Calif, where for many years he was in the Glendale sanitarium. Later when his sister, Mrs. Mary Jeffrey, moved to Los Angeles, he made his home with her until her death about a year ago. Since the death of Mrs. Jeffrey he made his home with his niece, Mrs. Hunter, who is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ring of Nortonville, Kan.

He is survived by one brother. Henry Ring of Nortonville, Kan., and one sister. Mrs. Ellen Daugherty of Denver, Colo. He was a brother-in-law of Mrs. Eleanor Ring of Hawarden.
