A Very sad Death
Mrs. D. Gregg Dies Suddenly at Worthington
Went to her father’s funeral, is taken sick and succumbs with Diphtheria

Word was received here yesterday of the sudden death of Mrs. D. Gregg of this city at Worthington MN, where she went a couple of weeks ago to attend the funeral of her father.

She and her husband were called to Worthington upon this sad mission and when Mr. Gregg got ready to return home, as Mrs. Gregg was not feeling very well, she concluded she would remain a few days and then return alone. Instead of getting better she grew worse and Tuesday Mr. Gregg was summoned to Worthington on account of her serious condition.

When he reached there she was thought to be some better and sent work back to the children to that effect. The next day they received the sad news that their mother was dead. At first it seems she was afflicted with a swelling in the head, then bronchitis set in and afterwards diphtheria developed in its most virulent form. It was this dread disease that caused her sudden death.

The deceased leaves a husband and eight children to whom her sudden death is a sad blow. A Telephone message from Mr. Gregg states that the remains will be hermetically sealed and sent to Hawarden for interment. They will arrive on the 6:10 train this evening and at one be taken to Grace Hill cemetery for interment.

One sad feature is that Mr. Gregg will not be permitted to accompany the remains home, having been quarantined at Worthington. The sincere sympathy of this entire community goes out to the afflicted family in their great bereavement.

(From the Sioux County Index and an online ancestry account Daniel Gregg born 15 Mar 1845 Ireland died 21 Apr 1914, Lillie Ann Sharp born 1862-1905 both buried in Grace Hill Cemetery Hawarden. The children were – Leila, Roy, John, Jessie, Isabell, Eden, and Daniel also from Daniel’s obit a daughter Florence )
