Gordon De Weerd
Gordon De Weerd, 65, of Sioux Center died Monday, September 8, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital. A memorial service was Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with the Rev. Stephen Rhoda officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

De Weerd was born November 29, 1937, to Bert and Hattie (Van Holland) De Weerd at Sioux Center. He attended country school, Sioux Center Christian School and Sioux Center Community High School.

On October 21, 1989, he married Helen De Vries in Sioux Center. He served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1962, serving 18 months in Italy. Following his honorable discharge from the service, he returned to Sioux Center. He entered the construction business, building several homes, duplexes and condominiums.

He enjoyed traveling and photography. He was a lifelong member of Bethel Chrisdan Reformed Church in Sioux Center. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6129.
Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Helen of Sioux Center; three brothers and sisters-in-law: Dick and Anna De Weerd of Pella, John and Ann De Weerd of Rock Valley and Gerald and Gladys De Weerd of Sioux Center; sister-in-law, Nellie
Altena of Sioux Center; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Hubert De Weerd, Memorials are requested to CHEARS Hospice & Home Health.
