Funeral Services Held Tuesday for Bert DeWeerd, 73
Funeral services jvere held at the Bethel Christian Reformed church here at l:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 26, for BertDeWeerd, 73, well-known Sioux-Center farmer and dairyman and a resident of Sioux county since 1913, who passed away her Saturday.Service's were conducted by the Rev. Louis-Tamminga and burial was made in the Sioux Center Community cemetery under the direction of Vander Ploeg's Funeral home. A brief service attended by members of the family was held at Vander Ploeg's Funeral chapel preceding the service at the church.
Mr. DeWeerd was born November 18, 1891, The Netherlands and in 1912, at the age of 21, immigrated to America. He lived for nine months in Michigan before moving to Sioux. County. He was united in marriage to Hattie Van Holland at Rock Valley on November 18, 1918.
To this union were born five sons all of whom survive him Dick of Pella, John oŁ Rock Valley, Gerald, Hilbert and Gordon all of Sioux Center. Also surviving him besides his wife are 18 grandchildren; one sister, Roelofje (Mrs. John Vruursma) of The Netherlands.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, two brothers and two
sisters.
Mr. DeWeerd was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed church for 30
yean and had served as deacon. Pallbearers were John T. Van Holland,
John H. Van Holland, Tom J. Van Holland, Gilbert Meernink and James
Zonnefeld
