SIBLEY--Nellie Vander Meulen, 91, Sibley, died Monday, Oct. 20, at Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley. Services were Friday, Oct. 24, at Ocheyedan Christian Reformed Church, with the Rev. John Knoester officiating. Burial was at Ocheyedan Township Cemetery, under the direction of Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley.

Nellie Vander Meulen, daughter of Gerrit and Gertie (Groendyke) Vander Meulen, was born Jan. 7, 1912, in Orange City. She lived her youth in Ocheyedan, where she attended Osceola Rural School. She also graduated from Nettleton Business School in Sioux Falls, SD. She worked at Collins Radio Station in Cedar Rapids during World War II. She later worked at a retail store in Chicago and later at a retail store in Ocheyedan. She moved in 1960 to Sibley, where she worked in county offices part-time until being employed full-time as deputy county auditor. She enjoyed baby-sitting for neighborhood children after she retired.

She was a member of Ocheyedan Christian Reformed Church, where she attended Bible study. She also was involved in mission work in Cary, MS, until 2002, and at the Alpha Center in Sioux Falls, SD. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers, handcrafts and traveling with family.

Survivors include two sisters, Geraldine Vander Meulen of Sibley, and Gertrude Waalkes of Sibley; and a sister-in-law, Freda Vander Meulen. She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
