Former Business Man Dies

Mr. Fred Vander Muelen, for long a resident and businessman in Sioux Center, died at his home in Orange City at the age of 53 last Friday morning [December 19]. While living in Sioux Center Mr. Vander Muelen worked for the electric company and had a blacksmith shop. About ten years ago he moved to a 40 acre farm near Orange City and continued his smithing work as a side line. His death was caused by a heart attack.

The bereaved relatives are: His father, Mr. Roy Vander Muelen who resides with his daughter Mrs. Peter Noteboom at Ocheydan; his wife Mrs. Fred Vander Muelen and son Raymond; his brothers Garrit, John, Edward, Roy, and his sisters, Mrs. Pete Noteboom and Mrs. Fred icks[??] of Maurice. The funeral took place on Monday Dec. 22 in Orange City.

Former Blacksmith Passes Suddenly

Fred Vander Meulen, in former years a blacksmith in Orange City and Sioux Center and known to hundreds in this county, was found dead in bed Friday morning, having expired during the night in his sleep. He was 53 years of age and had lived on his 40 acre farm north of the Orange City cemetery for a number of years. He was the oldest of his family and is survived by his wife and 20-year-old son. Funeral services were held at Orange City Monday afternoon, attended by a large number of long time friends of the family.
