Many Attend Frank Vortherms Rites at St. Mary's Friday

Funeral services were held Friday [Sept. 30] at 10 a.m. for Frank Vortherms, 81, of Alton. Rt. Rev. Msgr. Zeno Reising, Rev. N. J. Becker and Rev. Arnold Huewe officiated at Solemn High Mass. Pallbearers were grandsons: Gerald Vortherms, Michael Vortherms, Ernest Vortherms Jr., Wallace Slinger, Dennis Klein and Norman Klein. Interment was in St. Joseph cemetery at Granville.

Mr. Vortherms, a retired farmer, died Monday [September 26] at his home in Alton. He was born April 4, 1885 at New Vienna. He married Regina Beckmann Feb. 14, 1911. She died August 8, 1937. On November 27, 1951 at Laurens Mr. Vertherms married Anna Kaschmitter of Alton, and the couple since then resided in Alton.

Survivors include the widow; five sons: Arnold of Granville, Ernest of Hospers, George of Fulda, Minn., Sylvester of Wilmont, Minn., Leo of Westbrook, Minn.; three daughters: Mrs. Walter Slinger of Woodstock, Minn., Mrs. Ed Hemmen of Reading, Minn., Mrs. Anton Klein of Alton; two stepsons, Leonard Kaschmitter of St. Louis, Mo., Odilo Kaschmitter of Sioux Falls; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Robert McDonald of Kansas City, Mo.; 1 brother, Joe of Wilmont, Minn.; a sister, Mrs. Charles Schneider of Sleepy Eye, Minn.; 55 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren.

In his years of residence at Alton Mr. Vortherms was highly regarded and made many friends who will miss him, along with his devoted wife and fine family.

Present at the funeral from a distance were Joe Vortherms Sr., Wilmont, Minn.; Mrs. Charles Schneider, Sleepy Eye and Mrs. Ida Vortherms, Adrian, Minn.; Henry Hagens, Darwin, Minn.; John Heiderscheits and Cecilia Lueken, Morgan, Minn.; Frank and Louis Beckmann, St. Joseph, Mich.; the Joe Plagge's of Dell Rapids, S.D. and a host of relatives and friends from the surrounding area.
