Cornie Van Kley
July 19, 1923-July 17, 2006

SANBORN--Cornie Van Kley, 82, Sheldon, formerly of Sanborn, died Monday, July 17, at Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon. Services were Thursday, July 20, at First Reformed Church in Sanborn. Burial was at Roseland Cemetery.

Cornie Van Kley, son of Case and Lillian (Van Iperen) Van Kley, was born July 19, 1923, in Hospers. He spent his childhood years in Sibley, attending the area country schools. He married Hermina Van Engen on March 3, 1948, at Sibley Christian Reformed Church. They later moved to Sanborn, where he worked for 38 years at O'Brien County Cooperative Creamery (now known as AMPI), first as a milk hauler, and later as a field representative to farmers. He and his wife were custodians of First Reformed Church in Sanborn for 23 years. Due to failing health in 2000, he became a resident of Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon, where he was loved and cared for.

He valued education and was proud of the fact that his three sons and two of his grandsons are teachers. He was a member of First Reformed Church in Sanborn. He enjoyed outdoor sports, including fishing, hunting, camping, horseshoes and golfing. He loved watching and playing baseball and was a big New York Yankee fan. Spending time with his own family was important to him, and he seldom passed up an opportunity to tease his Oak Park Care Center family.

Survivors include his wife, Hermina "Mina" Van Kley; three sons, Craig and Sharon of Blue Earth, MN, Dennis and Sandy of Sioux Center, and Doug and Michelle of Edgerton, MN; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Stella Schiernbeck of Sibley, and Hilda and John Roelfs of Ashton; and two sisters-in-law, Alma Van Kley of Sheldon and Jeanne Van Kley of Worthington, MN.
