Jarold E. Van Donge, 78, of Ireton, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2002 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital in Sioux Center. Funeral service was Nov. 18 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig with the Rev. Curtis Matson officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton. Porter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jarold Van Donge was born Sept. 16, 1924 on the family farm near Ireton, the son of Ed and Gertrude (Schutt) Van Donge. He graduated from Ireton High School in 1941. He served with the Eighth Armored Division, "The Thundering Herd," of the U.S. Army's 94th Infantry during World War II.

On May 16, 1948 he married Neva Hoogland in Hawarden. He was a lifelong resident of the Ireton area. He farmed with his brother from 1946 until health problems in 1964. He worked at McNally Grain from 1964-1968, Siouxland Propane and later at Siouxland Implement for 18 years as a bookkeeper until he retired in 1982.

He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig, the Eagles Club, 60 years continuous membership in American Legion Post 276 of Ireton, and a lifetime member of VFW.

Survivors include his wife, Neva; daughter, Wauneva "Peanut" Wagers of Hawarden; two granddaughters; one grandson; five great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Van Donge Leahy of Sioux Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Waune Van Donge; brother, Edward Van Donge, Jr.; half-brother, Theodore "Porky" Schneider; and a half-sister, Helen (Schneider) Krueger.
