Waune Van Donge, 47, of Ireton, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002 at the Hawarden Community Hospital in Hawarden. Funeral service was Saturday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig with the Rev. A. Pete Petersen officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton. Porter Funeral Home in Ireton was in charge of arrangements.

Waune J. Van Donge was born July 7, 1955 at Le Mars, the son of Jarold and Neva (Hoogland) Van Donge. He graduated from the West Sioux High School in 1973. He served in the U.S. Army from 1973 until a medical discharge in 1975. On July 7, 1995 he married Gayle Feekes. He was active in the Eagles Club, currently serving as president of Le Mars Eagles Club, past president of Hawarden Eagles Club and past president of Western Zone.

Survivors include his parents, Jarold and Neva of Ireton; wife, Gayle of Ireton; son, Weston Van Donge of Ireton; and sister, Wauneva "Peanut" Wagers of Ireton.

An obituary in the Sioux Center News (Sept. 4) adds this information:

He was employed in the Ireton area (occupation not specified).

He enjoyed restoring old cars and showing them in car shows.

He was a member of Ireton American Legion Post 276.

Survivors include his parents of Ireton; his wife of Ireton; a son, Weston Van Donge and his fiance Becky Smith of Ireton; and a sister and her husband, Wauneva "Peanut" and Steve Wagers of Ireton.

An announcement of the wedding date of Rebecca Smith and Weston Van Donge (Ireton Examiner, August 8, 2002) states that he is the son of Jeff and Lori Thomas of Hawarden and Waune Van Donge of Ireton.

A search of the online Digital Archives of Sioux County found the following additional family information:

He married Lori Van Egdom, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Van Egdom, on August 12, 1978, in Ireton. He was employed at Wager's Construction in Ireton, and she was employed at K-Products. (Hawarden Independent, Aug. 31, 1978)

He married Michelle Morgan, daughter of Betty Morgan and the late Berton L. Morgan, on June 17, 1989. His sister Wauneva Wagers, brother-in-law Steve Wagers, and son Weston participated in the wedding. (Ireton Examiner, Aug. 3, 1989)

Michelle and Waune Van Donge had a son, Ethan Daniel, born May 12, 1990 (Ireton Examiner, May 31, 1990)

He was admitted on an emergency basis to St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City on September 10, 1990, and treated for the effects of a diabetic coma and cardiac arrest (Ireton Examiner, Sept. 20, 1990). His death likely resulted from one or both of these conditions.
