In the year 1882, they came to America and settled on a farm northeast of Alton. Goodlaxson of Creston, Mrs. Onen Steines of Renwick, Dena at home, Andrew in Lumberton, Miss., and Gerrit near Alton; and two great grandchildren, Marlene and Roy Goodlaxson. A brief article about her earlier that year (Sioux County Capital, February 23, 1939) gives a little additional information:
Although Mrs. D. Lyzen of Alton was 88 years old last October, she lives alone, tends her house and garden and does her own work, and remains very active in spite of her years. Her son, Albert Lyzen of Alton and her daughter, Mrs. Anthony Van Roekel of Orange City see to it, however, that her work will not be too strenuous.
Mrs. Lyzen has ten grandchildren: Mrs. Leland Goodlaxen of Creston, Mrs. Oren Steines, and Dena, Andrew and Gerrit, children of Albert; and Mrs. Gerrit Fedders, Mrs. Leonard Luchtenburg, Henry, Arthur and Leora, children of Mrs. Van Roekel.
