Ben Alons, 88, of Sheldon died Saturday, March 4, 1989, in a hospital in Sheldon. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wed. in the First Christian Reformed Church of Sheldon with the Rev. Jerome Julien officiating. Burial was in the East Lawn Cemetery under the direction of the Andringa Funeral Home of Sheldon.
Mr Alons was born July 18,1900 in Hospers to Daniel and Mary Alons. He lived his youth and attended school at Hospers, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Maggie Holtrop on February 21,1923 at Hospers. Following their marriage, they farmed near Sheldon, Iowa, until 1960 when they retired and moved to Sheldon, Iowa. He was a former board member of the Sheldon Christian School and the Sheldon Christian Retirement Home. He is survived by his wife, Maggie; seven children, Daniel of Ashton, IA; Mrs. Maynard (Gertrude) Hofman of Sanborn, la; Mrs. Sid (Marie) Vander Griend of Sheldon, la; John of Sanborn, Iowa; Leroy of Pantegp, North Carolina; Merl of Visalia, CA; Roger of Troy, IL; 35 grandchildren, 53 greatgrandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Gerrit of Boyden, IA; and one sister, Mrs. Grace Schmidt of Sheldon, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother, one grandchild, and one great-grandchild.
