Van Velzen-Doctor
Sue Ellen Van Velzen- Doctor, 45, of Atlanta, Ga., formerly of Sioux Center, was called to heaven suddenly June 22, 2011, at the family residence in Paris, France.
A service of remembrance was 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at Dunwoody United Methodist Church in Dunwoody, Ga. The Rev. David Melton officiated.
Mrs. Doctor was born July 3, 1966, in Sioux Center to Cornelius "Case" and Carol (Zwagerman) Van Velzen. She attended Sioux Center Christian School and Unity Christian High School in Orange City. She graduated from Dordt College in 1988. On May 14, 1988, she married David Rene' Doctor at First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. They first lived in Sioux City, where she taught art in the Sioux City elementary school system. During their time living in
Sioux City, they renovated one home and built three homes, two of which are in he Dakota Dunes Country Club. She also consulted on Interior decorating for many in the Gateway executive homes in the late 1990s. Career moves took them to Des Moines in 1999 where she renovated a 1933 Tudorian home. In 2001, the couple loved with their three young children to Atlanta. Being mother and devoting all for her children was her life, her passion. She enjoyed traveling; the family spent much time traveling in the United States and abroad. Since 2006, the family has been alternating school years in Paris, France. While in France, she started a company, Francetastic, Inc., and pursued several other business interests.
Survivors include her loving husband, David; precious children, Cosette, Caroline and Cornelius Doctor; mother Carol Van Velzen; sisters, Dawn (Kevin) Groeneweg of Golden, Colo., and Laura Lee Blake of Atlanta; nieces and nephews; David's family, mother-in-law Aukje "Audrey" (Pruiksma) Doctor of Lynden, Wash.; sister-in-law, Ingrid Doctor of Bellingham, Wash.; brothers-in-law, Ronald Doctor of Bellingham, Wash., and Peter Doctor of Dutch Harbor, Alaska.
She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Cornelius Van Velzen; grandparents William and Susan Van Velzen and Peter and Angeline Zwagerman.
