Rev. Harry Vanderaa, son of Harry T. and Johanna Vanderaa, was born August 6, 1922, in Lansing, Illinois. He lived his youth in Lansing and attended grade school and high school there. He attended Calvin College for four years and graduated from Calvin Theological Seminary in 1949. Rev. Vanderaa was united in marriage to Irma De Young on August 16, 1949, at South Holland, Illinois. After their marriage, he served as a pastor in Mountain Lake, Minnesota; Lucas, Michigan; Nigeria, West Africa; Volga, South Dakota; Parkersburg, Iowa; and moved to Sioux Center, Iowa in 1987. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, the Men's Society and the Gleaners' Forum.
He is survived by his wife; two sons and their wives: Larry and Ann of Mali, West Africa; Leland and Linda of Edgerton, Minnesota; two daughters and their husbands: Laurel and Rev. Paul Vossen of Boonville, Missouri; Louanne and Mark Schonewill of Bloomington, Minnesota; fourteen grandchildren; three sisters: Winnetta Sons of Demotte, Indiana; Jean Van Til of Schereville, Indiana; and Dorothea Carlson of Lansing, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents
