Age: 92 years, 3 months, 2 days
Funeral Service: January 2, 1998; First Reformed Church; Orange City, Iowa
Interment: West Lawn Cemetery; Orange City, Iowa
Christina was the daughter of Henry and Carrie (Van Wechel)Luchtenburg.
On March 1,1930, she married Bernard John Vander Aarde at Orange City. They lived in the same home in Orange City all their married life. He passed away February 14, 1980, at Orange City. Later, Mrs. Vander Aarde became a resident of the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull and then the Happy Siesta Retirement Home in Remsen. Since October of this year, she has lived at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City. She was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she belonged to the Lydia Circle and taught Sunday School classes for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Vander Aarde were both active in the Sioux County Historical Society and they belonged to the Heritage Foundation at Northwestern College in Orange City. They have always been interested in and supportive of Christian missions around the world.
Survivors include her two sons and their wives, Dr. Stanley B. and Darlene Vander Aarde, of Orange City; and the Rev. Robert L. and Marjorie Vander Aarde of Great Falls, Montana; six grandchildren, Paul Vander Aarde and his wife, Susan, of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; David Vander Aarde and his wife, Erin, of Danville, Illinois; Debra and her husband, Mark Vander Ploeg, of Paullina; Mary and her husband, Kurt Kenobbie of Phoenix, Arizona; Dr. Tamela and her husband, David Scholten of Ulm, Montana; and Liesl Vander Aarde of Tacoma, Washington;
ten great-grandchildren; three sisters, Diana Verdoorn of Ashton; Mina Fedders of Orange City; and Blanche Zevenbergen of Baldwin, Wisconsin; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Luchtenburg of Ashton; and Nancy Luchtenburg of Worthington, Minnesota; and a brother-in-law, Robert
Bonnecroy of Orange City.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Leon Bruce Vander Aarde; three brothers, Adolph, Leonard, and John Luchtenburg; a sister, Ellen Bonnecroy; and an adopted sister, Jessie Blake.
