From the Alton Democrat of Jan 17, 1903 Rock Valley News.
The father of E. (Edward) C. (Charles) Simmons died at the home of his son at this place on Monday after an illness of several months. He was advanced in years and had been failing for some time. The remains were shipped to Elk Point SD his home for burial.
(This was found to be Charles Edward Simmons born Aug 29, 1830 New York died Jun 13, 1903 Rock Valley buried Elk Point SD, wife was Adaline Viall born 25 Aug 1836 N. Hampton Co. OH died 1 Dec 1910 Union County SD. Married in 1858. Living in Sterling Jackson County in 1860. Other childre found on line were Elizabeth, Ida, and Millie.)
