Mrs. Geo. Winter Died

Sunday morning [March 1], Mrs. George Winter died in a Sioux City hospital at the age of 31 years. Mrs. Winter formerly was Miss Martha Van Ek, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Van Ek, who now live at the Sheldon Home.

Mrs. Winter has been living in Sioux City for the last few years where her husband is office manager in the Mystic Mills. When living in Sioux Center, Mrs. Winter was employed as a teacher in the Chr. School for a number of years. Many of the grown-up young people remember her with affection, on account of her lovable Christian disposition.

Mrs. Winter leaves to mourn her husband and an infant baby, her aged parents, two brothers, Dr. Jacob Van Ek of Boulder, Col. and Clarence Van Ek of Sioux Center; two sisters, Miss Gertrude Van Ek of Denver, and Mrs. J. Van Steenwyk of Sioux Center.

MANY HERE FOR FUNERAL RITES

Services for Mrs. George Winter, nee Martha Van Ek, were held Tuesday in Sioux City at the Berg & Nelson undertaking parlors. Rev. Rippey of Minneapolis, formerly pastor of the First Presbyterian church, Sioux City, to which Mrs. Winter belonged, preached the sermon. The following day further services were held in Soo Center, where burial took place. After brief rites at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Van Steenwyk, services were held at the First Christian Ref. church. In the absence of the pastor, Rev. Dykstra, Rev. Bagema of Sheldon and Rev. Haverkamp of Central Ref. church spoke, the former in the Holland language, the latter in English. Rev. Bagema is pastor of the church of which Mrs. Winter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Van Ek, are members. Beautiful music was furnished by the mixed quartet of Central Ref. church, Mrs. Wm. Maris, Mrs. Neal Jongewaard, Messrs. P. B. Mouw and George Jansma, accompanied by Mrs. Henry De Kraay.

The great number of friends and relatives present at the services attested to the deep regard and affection felt in this community for the young wife and mother whose earthly life was cut off so prematurely. Among relatives present were Mr. Winter's mother, Mrs. J. Winter and his brothers and sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Winter, Mr. and Mrs. John Winter, Mrs. Branaghum, Harry, Chris and Miss Genevieve Winter, all of St. Paul. Others were Dr. and Mrs. De Boer, Mr. and Mrs. Nick De Boer, Mrs. Ten Cate, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Roetman of Edgerton, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Jno. Dykstra of Hull, Mr. and Mrs. William Shouten, Rock Valley, Mr. and Mrs. A. De Jager, Rock Valley, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Van Wyk, Hull, Mr. and Mrs. Marinus Bomgaars, Mr. and Mrs. Henry De Wilt, Middleburg, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Versteeg, Hull, Mr. and Mrs. Versteeg of Chandler, Minn., Miss Gertrude Van Ek of Denver. Dr. Jacob Van Ek of Boulder, Colo., was not able to be present, nor was Mrs. Winter's mother, Mrs. A. Van Ek., who is still confined to bed following a serious illness. Among the many others present, were fellow residents of Mr. and Mrs. Van Ek at the Holland Home, Sheldon.

Mr. Winter's plans for the care of his infant child, Jerry Marvin, have not yet been determined. His mother, Mrs. Jerry Winter, is at present in Sioux City caring for the child since its arrival from the hospital. The baby will soon be brought to Sioux Center to remain for a time with Mrs. Winter's sister, Mrs. J. W. Van Steenwyk.
