Dr. Jacob Van Ek
November 11, 1896-October 9, 1994

Dr. Jacob Van Ek, 97, of Lakewood, Colorado, formerly of Sioux Center, died October 9 at Lakewood Meridian Health Care Center in Lakewood. Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Monday, October 17, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.

A memorial service will be Friday, November 4, at the University of Colorado Old Main Chapel, a part of which has been dedicated as the Van Ek Administration Center.

Van Ek was born November 11, 1986 [i.e., 1896], in Sioux Center, the son of Andrew and Mary (Nieuwenhof) Van Ek. He received his bachelor's, master's and doctor's degrees from the University of Iowa. He married Eve Drewelowe; she preceded him in death on October 28, 1988. He was an instructor in political science at the University of Iowa from 1922 to 1924 and then a professor at the University of Colorado from 1924 to 1965.

Survivors are two nieces and two nephews, including two local people, Mary Martha Kwikkel and Norman Van Steenwyk, both of Sioux Center.
