Dr. Donald L. Heeren
Dr. Donald L. Heeren, 46, of Grand Island, NE, formerly of Hawarden, died Saturday, March 3, 1984, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident near St. Paul, NE.
Services were Wednesday, March 7, in the Abundant Life Church in Grand Island. Additional services were at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 8, in the Hawarden United Methodist
Church. The Rev. Marion Bloodworth officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery under direction of Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Dr. Heeren was born Dec. 14, 1937, in Hawarden. He received his education in the Hawarden public schools and received a doctor's degree from Northwestern College of
Chiropractic in St. Paul, MN, in 1961. He had completed two years of post graduate study in orthopedics and also in kinesiology.
He began practice in 1961 in Rock Valley, moving his practice to the Grand Island community in 1965.
He married Marilyn Abbey Oct. 17, 1963. He served as secretary for the Nebraska Chiropractic Physician Association from 1970 until 1972 and had served on the legislative committee from 1966 through 1974. He had been a guest lecturer at Northwestern
College.
He was a consultant to the Donithan Power Lifters and a member of the Grand Island Sertoma Club, Liederkranz Society and Hall County Sheriff's Posse. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Alan (Stacia) Jones of Sioux City; two sons, Timothy and Todd, both of Grand Island; his mother, Mrs. Violet Heeren of Hawarden; a brother, Le Roy of Hawarden, and three sisters, Mrs. Eileen Gaul of Hawarden, Mrs. Walter (Shirley) Dagle of Lisbon and Mrs. Frank (Janice) Compher of Baltimore, MD.
Memorials have been establised in Dr. Heeren's name with Northwestern College of Chiropractic in St. Paul and the Retarded Children's Association of the Sertoma Club.
