Funeral ServicesHeld Saturday for George Leeuw, 83
Funeral services were conducted at the First Reformed church in Rock Valley Saturday, February 2, for George Leeuw, 83, former resident
of Sioux Center vicinity, who died at the Sioux Center Community hospital Thursday.
Services were conducted by the Rev. Henry B. Poppen and burial was in the Orange City cemetery
under the direction of Porter Funeral home of Rock Valley.
Mr. Leeuw was born at Kampen, Holland, December 22, 1879, and came to America as a young man.
He was married to Janaje Dybgraaf in Sioux Center February 24, 1916. The couple farmed near
Sioux Center for a number of years. He was employed for a time as a baker by Vander Meer Bakery and by Walter Kooiman and Sons of Rock Valley. Between 1936 and 1948 he worked for Eerkes and Vandcr Ploeg in Orange City. He
was a member for many years of the Dutch Psalm singers of Orange City.
His wife preceded him in death in 1939.
Survivors include two daughters. Gertrude of Rock Valley and Daisy (Mrs. Gilbert Van Noort) of
Rock Valley, and a son, Chris, of Artesia, Cal.; four grandchildren and many relatives in The Netherlands.
