Mrs. Johanna Sohl, age 94, of Hull, passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, September 1, at 11:00am, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Hull. The Rev. Robert Gordon will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull..

Johanna was born on November 2, 1917, in rural Hull, the daughter of Bert and Dora (Westra) Van Batavia. She was raised on a farm near Hull, where she attended country school.

On February 20, 1946, she married Edward Sohl on the Van Batavia family farm near Hull. They made their home on the Sohl family farm near Boyden, where she was a homemaker who raised chickens and sold eggs. In 1975, they moved into Boyden. "Ed" passed away on January 29, 2001, in Hull, after almost 55 years of marriage.

In March of 2002, Mrs. Sohl moved to The Colony House in Hull.

She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, and she prayed continually for her loved ones, especially remembering her family. She enjoyed singing hymns, gardening, canning, and baking and was known for the cake she would make on Saturday for Sunday visitors. At The Colony House, she enjoyed her patio, where she cared for her flowers and fed the birds. Her family is grateful for her full life and expressions of love for them, including XXOO (hugs and kisses) on birthday cards.

Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Lloyd and Jan Sohl, of Rapid City, South Dakota; Doris and David Van Beek and Harold P. and Darlene Sohl, all of Hull; and John and Nyla Sohl, of Luverne, Minnesota; ten grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Douglas Van Beek, four brothers, and four sisters.
