From the Alton Democrat of Dec 13, 1902 Hospers News.
C. (Cornelius) Tillema who has been failing in health for the past few months passed quietly away Monday at midnight. Services were held Friday at twelve Thirty at the house and at One o’clock at the church. The remains were interred in the Newkirk Cemetery. This is a sad blow to his wife and family. All business places were closed during the services.

TRANSCRIBER NOTE:
(Cornelius born 24 Feb 1848 died 9 Dec 1902 buried Newkirk Cemetery and his wife Trijntje (VanAkker) 1851-1930 is buried there too. The had five children – Jacob 1879, Albert 1884, Willis 1886, and Charles 1891. There is buried in the Newkirk cemetery a Seepe Tillema born 1 Dec 1888 died 21 Aug 1887, presumed to be their son also.)
