Death of Bruno Lendt

Bruno Lendt died at the Sacred Heart hospital in LeMars Monday [January 15]. He was taken to the hospital last Wednesday and an operation performed which showed stomach ailment, that organ having been perforated and peritonitis developed, causing death. It was a severe shock to the whole community because of the suddenness and his standing in the community which made him many friends. Mr. Lendt had always been a hard working man, plying his trade as a mason and plasterer. Although many knew that his health at times was not good few expected the serious turn of the malady from which he must have suffered for years.

Bruno Lendt was born Jan. 24, 1869, and died Jan. 15, 1934, at the age of 64 years, 11 months and 21 days. At the age of 13 he worked with his father at the mason trade which he followed until death, being a very skillful artisan along that line. He was married to Emma Mueller at Lowden, Iowa, in 1896 and they made their home there until 1899. It was there both joined the Lutheran church. They moved to Ireton from Lowden and have made their home here for 34 years.

Five children were born to this union: Agnes of Medford, Ore.; and Chris, Paul and Mary of Ireton. Elnora, another daughter, preceded her father in death. Besides the widow and children who mourn the loss of a husband and father, he leaves three brothers, Eilrich, Warner and Herbert Lendt of Wheatland, Iowa, and two sisters, Mrs. Geo. Strachbiem of Big Rock and Mrs. Conrad Reinking of Maurice and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held from the home at 1:30 this afternoon and from St. Paul's Lutheran church at 2 o'clock. Burial was made in the Lutheran cemetery. So ends the earthly career of another highly respected citizen, who called Ireton his home for a third of a century, who had the best interests of his home, neighbors and community uppermost, whose honesty and integrity were never questioned. He was a loving husband, devoted to his wife and children. He will be missed from our midst.
