Chris Serck, 89, of Hudson, died Oct. 12 at a hospital in Hawarden, Iowa. Services were at 2 p.m. Oct. 14 in the Hudson Lutheran Church. The Rev. Marlin Haugrud officiated. Burial was in Eden Cemetery with the VanDeMore Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. Serck was born May 20, 1887, in Sioux County, Iowa. He married Elsie Johnson Dec. 20, 1917 at Hudson. They farmed near Beloit, a rural community near Inwood, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I in France. In 1923 the couple moved to Hudson where he entered the carpentry business. He retired in 1966.
Mr. Serck served as mayor of Hudson. He was a member of the Hudson Lutheran Church, of Bergstrom-Bodeen Post 128 of the American Legion at Hudson; and was an honorary member of the Hudson Fire Department.
Survivors include the widow; a son, Bernard of Hudson; three daughters, Mrs. William (Elizabeth) Heuer of Hawarden, Mrs. Rolfe (Marie) Cole of Hudson and Mrs. Kermit (Eunice) Vandenbos of Washington Heights, Md.; a brother, William of Rock Valley, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Albert (Ann) Stoltenberg of Hawarden and Mrs. Carl (Ella) Miller of Hudson; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
