Mrs. Elsie Serck, age 87, died Wednesday, Feb. 20 at Colonial Manor of Hudson. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 23 at 1:30 p.m. at the Hudson Lutheran Church with the Rev. Gary Garnatz officiating. Mrs. Roger Smith was the organist and Mrs. Gary Blake was the soloist. Burial was at the Eden Cemetery in Hudson with the VanDeMore Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Elsie Johnson was born Sept. 3, 1892 to Anna and Frank Johnson in Garfield Township, Sioux County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On Dec. 20, 1917 she was married to Chris Serck at Hudson. They had four chldren: Elizabeth, Marie, Bernard and Eunice. Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Serck lived on a farm in Sioux County. In 1923 they moved to Hudson to make their home. Elsie was a Charter Member of the Hudson American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Hudson Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in Oct., 1976, and also her parents, two brothers and one sister.
She is survived by one son, Bernard of Hudson; three daughters, (Elizabeth) Mrs. William Heuer of Hawarden, (Marie) Mrs. Rolfe H. Cole of Hudson and (Eunice) Mrs. Kermit Vandenbos of San Antonio, Texas; one brother, Oscar W. Johnson of Canton; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
