John De Ryke died Saturday night [August 24] at his home here [Sioux Center] after a long illness, at the age of 47 years. Born in the Netherlands, he came to the United States at the age of 23. At the time of the World War he enlisted in the service of his adopted country. Ten years ago he married Miss Henrietta Mol. He is survived by his wife and little son, Jakie, who have the sincere sympathy of the community in their sad bereavement. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Centeral Ref. church, with full military honors accorded by members of James Doornink post, American Legion, of which he was a member.

John De Ryke, 47, Died of Cancer

John De Ryke, 47, sick for the past year and a half with cancer, passed away at his home Saturday evening. The military funeral was held Wed. afternoon from the Central Ref. Church. Rev. Keuning officiated.

John came to America twenty-four years ago. He spent one year in the army at Camp Pike, Ark. He married Henrietta Mol in 1923, and they have one son, Jacob, 8.

John has been a familiar figure in Sioux Center for the past two years and will be best remembered for his amiable nature.
