Edward S. Johnson, 89, of Alcester, died March 13 at an Alcester nursing home.
Services were at 2 p.m. March 15 at the Nathanael Lutheran Church. The Rev. George Metzenthin officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery under direction of the Wass Funeral Home.
Mr. Johnson was born April 18, 1886 in Union County. He was graduated from Humboldt, Iowa, Business College in 1905 and was employed at banks in Sioux City and Presho, S.D. before he returned to Alcester in 1910. He married Mathilda Tunell Dec. 14, 1910 in Alcester. They farmed in the Alcester area. Mrs. Johnson died Aug. 9, 1952. Mr. Johnson retired in 1960. After retirement he wrote short stories and histories. He wrote histories of Alcester and Presho, the Presho work being published in book form.
Survivors include two sons, Melvin of Alcester and Glenn of Iowa Falls, Iowa; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
