Norman S. Knutson
Mr. Knutson, age 66, died Tuesday at a Yankton, S.D. hospital. Funeral services were held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church at Hudson with the Rev. Milo Sheldon officiating. Pallbearers were: Terry Twedt, Robert Torkelson, T. E. Quarnstrom, Charles Scott, Merton Turner and Darrell Sogn. Honorary pallbearers were: Paul Scott, Delbert Fowles, Charles Fowles, Floyd Torkelson, Raymond Nitz and Bailey Horner. Burial was at the Eden Cemetery, Hudson, S.D.
Norman Severn Knutson was born December 8, 1909 to Bertha and Ole Knutson at Vilas, S.D. In 1913 the family moved to Hawarden, Iowa. Norman attended public school in Hawarden. He also attended Mornngside College at Sioux City, Iowa and the CCC Camp at Minnesota and Arkansas. On August 27, 1935 he was united in marriage with Doris Twedt at South Sioux City, Nebraska. They were the parents of one daughter, Karen. In 1941, Norman began farming in Eden Township near Hudson and continued with this work until 1973 when he retired because of failing health. In September of 1975 the Knutsons moved to Vermillion to make their home. Norman was a member of the First Congregational Church of Hudson, Jeptha Lodge, AF & AM of Hudson, York Rite Masons and the Sioux Falls El Riad Shrine.
Preceding him in death were his parents, 5 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife, Doris, of Vermillion, S.D.; one daughter, Karen (Mrs. George Ferris) of Vermillion, S.D., and one grandson, Mark; three sisters: Helen (Mrs. W. J. Weir) of Hudson, S.D., Tillie (Mrs. Carroll Pletcher) and Lillian (Mrs. R. C. O'Hair), both of Eagle Grove, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
