John H. Peters, 82, of Westfield died Wednesday, May 30, 1990, in the Akron Convalescent Care Center after a long illness.

Services were Saturday in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron with the Rev. Norman McCallum officiating. Burial was held in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation was held in Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Mr. Peters was born March 24, 1908, in Plymouth County, the son of Rinehard and Johanna (Ressen) Peters. He married Ruby Parker in 1932. She died in 1936. He worked at the Sioux City Stockyards for 31 years, retiring in 1974. He then worked part time for the Sioux City Commission Company and retired Jan. 1, 1990. In 1970 he married Ardis Yates.

Mr. Peters was a member of the Lutheran Church of Brunsville.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Janiece Black of Akron; a son, Donald of Akron; a stepdaughter, Patricia Hombs of Westfield; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; four step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Woodrow of Hawarden; and a sister, Ida Miller of Le Mars.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
