Esther Catherine (Betten) Menke, the daughter of Robert and Margaret (Reimers) Betten at Boyden, IA. She attended a country school near her home during her school years.

Esther was united in marriage to Burnell Menke on April 9, 1941 at Sibley, IA. Together the couple worked arm and arm together through their 55 years of marriage. There was little on the farm that she didn’t do or help do. She also helped with their golf cart business, but Esther wasn’t all work and no play. She loved to go dancing, bowling, golfing, playing cards, going to Vegas and BINGO. She belonged to several organizations and auxiliaries and was a very loyal and active member of the Eagles Club in Sheldon. Esther passed away on July 28, 2012 at the Sanford Senior Care Center in Sheldon, IA at the age of 91.

She was preceded him in death by her husband of 55 years, Burnell; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Clark (Catherine) and Warren (Marion) Betten; her in-laws: Ernest and Lizzie Menke; three brothers and sisters-in-law: John Henry (Mae), Harry (Sandy) and Clarence Menke.

Survivors include: daughter Jackie (Pete) Van Meeteren of Payson, AZ, son Greg (Linda) Menke of Primghar, IA; grandchildren: Kandy (Joe) Van Meeteren of Glendale, AZ, Jeff (Kimberly) Van Meeteren and their daughters, Corrie and Jennifer of Magnolia, TX, Trisha Menke and her daughter Haley Fitzgerald of Seattle, WA, Tim Menke of Sanborn, IA; sister: Deloris (Gary) Kopp of Aurora, MN; sister-in-law: Catherine Menke of Sheldon; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Esther loved life and people. She was a very active person and was always full of energy. She seemed to know everyone and always took the time to speak to them.
