Mr. Richard Landman, age 89, of Hull, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2012, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital in Sioux Center.

There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, August 8, at 11:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Verlyn Boone will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. There will be a prayer service on Wednesday, at 10:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Richard Lloyd was born on October 28, 1922, in Rock Valley, the son of Koert and Alice (Wynia) Landman. As a child, his family moved to Hospers, where he graduated from high school. He then served in the United States Army at the end of World War II.

On January 16, 1946, he married Eleanor Lavonne Raak in Hospers. They lived in Sheldon for one year and then moved to their farm northwest of Hull. In 1984, they retired into Hull and wintered in Texas for several years.

Rich was a member of the First Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory. He also belonged to the Northwest Camp of the Gideons and the Wegman-Koele American Legion Post, both in Hull.

He enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards, shooting pool, and volunteering at the Rolling Hills Country Club. He was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan.

Survivors include his wife of more than 66 years, Lavonne; three sons and one daughter and their spouses, Larry and Marvella Landman, of Doon; Amy and Daryl Grooters, of Boyden; Paul and Marti Landman, of Cabool, Missouri; and Philip and Linda Landman, of Hull; ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Posthuma, of Le Mars.

He was preceded in death by a son, Lyle Dean Landman; a great-grandson, Kael Richard Grooters; a sister, Alyda Boone; and a brother, Pierre Landman.
