Obituary: HAWARDEN, IOWA- Shirley R. Gray, 74, of Hawarden, formerly of Paullina and Akron, died Thursday, August 2, 2012 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center.
Visitation will begin at noon on Monday, with the family present from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. A Committal Service and burial of the cremated remains will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Riverside Cemetery at Akron, Iowa.
Shirley R. Gray was born March 13, 1938 in Union County, South Dakota near Akron, the daughter of Raymond and Fern (Rosenbaum) Allen. She attended school and at the age of 14 moved to Sioux City. Shirley married Robert E. Gray, Sr. February 24, 1956. They made their home in Sioux City, Portland, Oregon and in 1993 they moved to Hawarden, Iowa. Shirley was employed at St. Vincent Hospital in Sioux City and for a number of years at Zenith. She had worked as a nurses aide at a number of different locations. Robert died on December 19, 2005.
Survivors include her children, Robert and Kathy Gray of Hudson, South Dakota, Vickie Hanson of Sioux City, Russell and Amber Gray of Chatsworth, Iowa, Rory Gray of Beresford, South Dakota, Tammy and Tim Reinert of Paullina, Iowa, and Shane Gray also of Paullina; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a brother, Larry Allen of Sioux City; and two sisters, Charlene Barrett of Chatsworth, Iowa and Beverly and Roger Jeffers of Sioux City.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Richard; and great grandbaby, Micah; uncles; aunts; and a niece.
