Obituary: Ireton, Iowa- Patricia Elaine Skogman, age 70, of Ireton died Wednesday August 1, 2012 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday August 4, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Ireton with Rev. Barb Joy officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. Visitation will begin at noon Friday, with family present beginning at 5:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Ireton. Porter Funeral Home of Ireton is in charge of arrangements. The family prefers memorials be directed to the United Methodist Church in Ireton.
Elaine was born February 14, 1942 in LeMars, Iowa to Charles and Helen (Johnson) Houlton. She graduated from West Sioux School and on June 11, 1961 she married Chuck Skogman. They lived and worked in Ireton until her passing. Elaine was on the Community Center building committee and served for several years on the Ireton Rescue Squad. She was a past member of the PTA, an auxiliary member at the Hawarden Eagles, an active member of the United Methodist Church in Ireton, and an avid fan of all West Sioux athletics. Elaine also enjoyed playing softball, fishing, and bowling.
Elaine is survived by her husband Chuck of 51 years; father, Charles Houlton of Ireton; daughter, Dana (Brent) Hamilton of Harrisburg, South Dakota; son, Dean Skogman and his significant other Paige of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; son, Dan (Amy) Skogman of Hinton, Iowa; brother, Doug (Sue) Houlton of Ireton; brother, Bruce (Janet) of Earlville, Iowa; brother-in-law Don Eisma of Prior Lake, Minnesota; sister-in-law Delores (Don) Abbey of McCook, Nebraska; sister-in-law Norma Skogman of Hawarden, Iowa; 4 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
Elaine was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Houlton; sister, Kay Eisma; brother-in-law, Steve Skogman; brother-in-law, Jerry Skogman; mother and father- in-law, Alfred and Madelyn Skogman.
