BERT KOENEN, 35, LOSES LIFE WHEN HIT BY TRUCK
Funeral Services Will Be Here Next Monday

Bert Koenen, 35 years of age, the son of E. W. Koenen northwest of Rock Valley, was fatally injured Tuesday afternoon on the highway near his home at Schindler, S.D., when he was struck by a truck which he did not see on account of the high wind and blinding snow. Schindler is near Harrisburg, S.D. His skull was fractured and Mr. Koenen died about midnight the same day at the Sioux Valley hospital, Sioux Falls. His widow and four children survive.

Funeral services will be held here Monday, at 12 noon at the E. W. Koenen farm home and at 2:00 p.m. at the Netherlands Reformed church. Arrangements are in charge of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home.

The Art Vander Pol family received word that Mrs. Vander Pol's brother-in-law, Mr. Bert Koenen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was killed Tuesday when he was struck by a truck while on a highway looking for his cattle. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife and four small children.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has Koenen, Bert, born 19 May 1909, died 8 March 1944; buried Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley.

His widow subsequently married John Van Dokkumburg. Her obituary (Sioux County Index, Aug. 18, 1982) gives her name as Gertrude Bakker.
