Hawarden Independent, October 25, 1934

Scarlet fever took its first toll in this vicinity with the death of Arthur little son of Mr. & Mrs. Arie Van Hofwegen well known farmers in this vicinity when he passed from this life at the Sacred Heart hospital at LeMars. Complications resulted the sickness which resulted in pneumonia, and the weakened body could not withstand the ravages of the disease. Another was dearly beloved by his parents and relatives and friends of a genial disposition he made friends with all who came in contact with him and his presence will be sorely missed. Brief funeral services were held Wednesday and the little form tenderly laid to rest in Pleasant Hill cemetery. Sympathy is extended to the family.
