Sioux Center News, October 21, 1942

Gerrit Van Engen, 21, son of Mr. & Mrs. Gerrit Van Engen, Sr. of Sanborn, died on Tuesday morning after he accidentally drank poison. Some poison used for the chickens had been placed in a bottle labeled cough medicine and Gerrit drank the poison thinking it was cough medicine. He was taken to the doctor's office in Sanborn and died there.

Funeral services will be held in Sanborn at 1 o'clock, at the home and 1:30 at the church.

Besides his parents, Gerrit is survived by one sister, Mrs. G. Vander Brink and one brother, Wilbur. He is the nephew of Mrs. John Van Engen of Sioux Center.
