Loucella Barents, 78, of Ireton died Wednesday, July 12, 1995 at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars following an extended illness. Services were at 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Ireton with the Rev. Dean Shelly officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton. Visitation was at noon Friday, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Porter-Dow-Funeral Home in Ireton.

Mrs. Barents was born May 25, 1917, in Middleburg, the daughter of Jake and Klasina (DeKoning) Ver Hoeven. She lived on a farm north of Orange City and attended rural school. In 1936, her family moved to the Ireton area. She married Gerrit Barents March 14, 1941, at her home in rural Ireton. The couple lived in Sanborn until moving to the Ireton area in 1944. They started farming in 1947 and retired to town in 1979. He died July 21, 1984.

Mrs. Barents was a member of the United Methodist Women in Ireton and served as financial secretary of the church. She was president of the Senior Citizens group for four years, served on the Council on Aging and was a volunteer at Hass Hillcrest Care Center at Hawarden for 10 years.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Vernon and Maxine of Ireton and Darrel and Jenet of Orange City; six grandchildren, Cami, Ryan, Ranae, Jerris, Jennie and Amanda Barents; a great grandchild; a sister, Dorathy Koopmans of Ireton; and three brothers and their wives, Don and Marie Ver Hoeven of Inwood, Clarence and Sadie Ver Hoeven of Hawarden, and Anthony and Helen Ver Hoeven of Ireton. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Marvin Ver Hoeven.
