Gerrit Barents, 68, of Ireton, died Saturday at a Hawarden hospital. Services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the United Methodist Church in Ireton. The Rev. Paul Hansen, pastor, officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. There was a prayer service at 8:30 p.m. in the Dow Funeral Home at Ireton.

Mr. Barents was born Nov. 17, 1915 near Doon. He married Loucella VerHoeven March 14, 1941 in rural Ireton. The couple farmed in the Ireton area until their retirement in 1979 when they moved to Ireton. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Vernon of Ireton, Darrel of LeMars; two brothers, John of Fulda, Minn., Julius of Ireton; two sisters, Mrs. William (Jacoba) Nelson of Arcata, Calif., Mrs. Henry (Marie) Walraven of Hills, Minn.; four grandchildren.
