Death of Mrs. Popma

On Monday afternoon, at 5 o'clock, after a lingering illness of more than two months from typhoid fever, Mrs. Jennie Popma, wife of Gerrit Popma, departed this life at the age of 38 years. Deceased was born in Pella, Iowa, and came to Sioux county with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. Nieuwendorp, when a child. She was united in marriage to Mr. Popma 17 years ago and six children have been born to them, three boys and three girls, the oldest of whom is 16 years and the youngest, living, three years old; their seven months old baby boy was buried just twenty-four hours before she died.

Mrs. Popma was a devoted Christian, a member of the First Reformed church; she was an indulgent mother and faithful wife, and her death cast a gloom of sorrow over the entire community. Mrs. Popma was the third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nieuwendorp who has died within the past eleven months, and their cup of sorrow is indeed full. The bereaved husband is almost prostrated with grief, and the deepest sympathy of all goes out to him and the motherless children in their greatest sorrow. The funeral services were held this afternoon from the family home at 1:30 and from the First Reformed church at 2:30, conducted by the Rev. Henry Straks.
