Margaret Hermina Van Holland, 79, died Saturday, March 11, at Sioux Center Community Hospital.

Services were at 2 p.m., Tuesday at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley with the Rev. John den Hoed officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley.

Mrs. Van Holland was born July 31, 1920, at Rock Valley, the daughter of Herman & Hattie (Loverink) Van Galen. She was raised in the Inwood and Rock Valley areas where she also attended country school. She married Anthony Van Holland on November 27, 1942, at Dakota City. They farmed near Lester, Inwood, Rock Valley and Hartford, South Dakota. Her husband died January 24, 1957 and she and her children returned to Rock Valley, where she worked at Warren Cafe and Ray's Cafe. She moved to Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull in February 1998.

She belonged to Netherlands Reformed Church in Rock Valley. She enjoyed playing Scrabble and reading.

Survivors include three daughters, Alberta Van Holland of Rock Valley; Henrietta and her husband Glenn Mantel of Doon, and Jacoba Nagel of Worthington, Minnesota; a son and his wife, Herman and Donna of Rock Valley; two sisters, Evelyn and her husband Henry Vanden Brink of Rock Rapids, and Mary Burgers of Hawarden; a sister-in-law, Jacoba Brown of Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and an infant son.
