Sioux Center News, April 4, 1990

Mrs. Lillian D. Van Kley, age 74, of Hospers, died Tuesday, March 27 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.

Lillian Dena was born Oct. 14, 1915 at Hospers, the daughter of William H. Hofmeyer and Rose Zwagerman Hofmeyer. She was raised in the Newkirk area.

On March 31, 1938 she married Peter Van Kley at Hospers. They farmed in the Newkirk area until 1972 when they retired to Hospers.

She was a member of the Newkirk Reformed Church and the Mission Fellowship Circle of the church. In earlier years she had taught Sunday School and Bible School classes.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Rosa and her husband Lloyd Grotenhuis of Sheldon, and Lila and her husband Jerry Kasner of Kingsley; a son, Peter L. Van Kley and his wife Diane of Alton; 12 grandchildren, six great granddaughters; two sisters, Mrs. Joe C. (Bertha) Kleinhesselink of Orange City, and Mrs. Gerrit (Hermina) Schneider of Hospers; and a brother, Peter Willis Hofmeyer of Hospers.

She was preceded in death by an infant grandson.

Funeral services were held Thursday at the Newkirk Reformed Church with the Rev. Kevin VerHoeven officiating. Interment followed at the Newkirk Cemetery under the direction of the Van Etten-Ollman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City.
