Sioux Center News, December 16, 1987

Arie Van Kley, 82, of Sheldon, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 1987 at the Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m., Wed., Dec. 9, at First Reformed Church of Sheldon with Rev. Warren Hietbrink officiating. Interment was in East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon under the directions of the Andringa Funeral of Sheldon.

Arie Van Kley, son of Arie & Johanna (Van Iperen) Van Kley, was born near Newkirk on November 29, 1905.

He married Gertrude Vander Maten in Orange City on January 22, 1931. The couple farmed near Sheldon for 40 years. In 1970 they retired to a home in Sheldon.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sheldon and also a member of the Dutch Psalm Singers.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude; a son, Arlin of Sheldon and two daughters, Joyce (Mrs. Elmer) Den Hartog of Sheldon and Eldean (Mrs. Arthur) Franken of Maurice; twelve grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a brother, Peter Van Kley of Hospers; three sisters: Nellie Menning, Gertrude DeValois, Pearl Melles, all of Orange City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two half sisters.
