Boyden, Iowa - Chris Van Meeteren, 85, of Sheldon, Iowa formerly of Boyden, died Friday Oct 5, 2001, at Good Samaritan Center in Geroge IA.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Presbyterian Church in Boyden, with the Rev. Kenneth MacLeod officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Township Cemetery. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 5-7 p.m. at Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.
Chris Van Meeteren, the son of Marinus and Gertie Peters Van Meeteren, was born April 1, 1916, in Sanborn, IA, where he atended country school until the eighth grade.
On Feb 3, 1944 he was united in marriae to Lois De Hartog in her parents home near Sheldon. After their marriage, the couple farmed near Cloverdale, Sheldon and Archer, IA and for one year by Canton SD, before moving to Boyden in 1961.
He was employed with DEMCO until his retirement in 1980. After his retirement, the couple remained in the family home in Boyden. In November 2000, Chris became a resident of the George Community Good Smaritan Center. He passed away reaching the age of 85 years, six months and four days.
He was a member of United Presbeterian church of Boyden and enjoyed traveling. woodworking, gardening and working in the yard with his flowers.
Chris is survived by Lois his wife of 56 years; their four sons and their wives, Daryl and Leigh of Interntional Falls MN, Lonnie and Karen of Sheldon, Dwayne and Laura of Boyden and Leland and Karla of Boyden; 12 grand and three step grand children; two sisters, Hattie and Jeanette Van Meeteren, both of Sheldon; two brothers, William and his wife, Esther and John, all of Sheldon; and two sisters-in-law.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Nick and Morris.
