Obituary: Hawarden, IA—Brownie (Harriet Lenore) Busch, age 92, of Hawarden died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at the Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden with Rev. Barb Joy officiating.
Brownie Busch was born Harriet Lenore Dykstra to parents Minert and Hazel (Wood) Dykstra, on October 28, 1919 in Hudson, South Dakota. She moved to Hawarden, Iowa and attended school where she met Harold Henry Busch, the love of her life. She and Harold were married on August 19, 1943 and were stationed in various locations in the Navy before returning to Hawarden where they raised their two sons, Harold Jr. (Hal) and James, and their daughter Nancy.
Brownie loved gardening, animals, and dancing. But most of all, she loved dancing. Brownie was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and several Methodist Church groups.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Hal Busch and Dr. Ruth Morton of Portland, Oregon and Dr. James and Sharon Busch of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; her daughter and partner, Dr. Nancy Busch and Virginia Nelson of Lincoln, Nebraska; and her grandchildren, Kelly Busch of Daytona, Florida, Angie Busch Cutler of Hill City, South Dakota, and Jamie Stephens of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and many great-grandchildren.
Brownie was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her parents, Minert and Hazel Dykstra; brother, George Dykstra; and sisters, Myrtle Mae Wood and Dorothy Loeb.
