Obituary: Rock Valley, Iowa: Wilma A. Bousema, 85, of Rock Valley, died Sunday, July 22, 2012 at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley. Funeral service will be Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at First Reformed Church in Rock Valley with Pastor Garry Nyenhuis officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley.
Wilma Alyce Bousema was born December 8, 1926 in Hawarden, Iowa to Ralph and Tena (Snip) Hiemstra. The family later moved to California where Wilma graduated from High School. On September 26, 1949 Wilma was united in marriage with Richard Bousema in Artesia, California. Together they owned and operated a dairy in Artesia and Chino, California before moving to Boyden in 1971 to farm. From the farm, Wilma moved to Hull and most recently made her home at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley. Wilma worked as a volunteer at the Treasure Chest in Sheldon for many years and she also enjoyed crafts. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She loved baking cookies, reading Bible stories and singing songs with them.
Those left to honor Wilma’s memory are her son, Ralph Bousema and his wife Sheri of Rock Valley; daughter, Thelma Koops and her husband Randy of Downs, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Ross (Brooke) Bousema, Ashley (Eric) Visser, Berend (Samantha) Koops, Claire (Andy) Clifford, Steffen Koops, Adrienne Koops, Alexis Koops, Drake Koops, and Bethany Bousema; three great-grandchildren, Baileigh Visser, Tate Visser, and Jackson Bousema and sister-in-law, Alvina Hiemstra of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Justin Bousema and brother, Gary Hiemstra.
