Sioux Center News, July 24, 1941

Andrew Van Kley, 56, dropped dead from heart failure early Tuesday morning while feeding his hogs on his farm two miles northeast of Hudson. He had been ailing recently from enlargement of the heart but continued to work during the harvest. Shortly before he fell he said to his daughter Joyce who was with him: "....this work is too much for me." Because he fell inside the hog lot his daughter could not leave him and called for help.

The funeral services will be held Friday in the Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley, Rev. Triezenburg will officiate.

Surviving him are Mrs. Van Kley and six children: Mrs. Pearl Zommermaand of Ireton; Mrs. Martha Veltkamp of Orange City; Fred of Rock Valley, and the three younger children still at home, Joyce, Gary and Caroline. His aged father, Floris Van Kley, 80, and 3 brothers and 3 sisters also survive. His brothers, Will and Art of Sioux Center and Herbert of Chicago; his sisters, Mrs. Maas Blankespoore, Mrs. G. Prins, and Mrs. Ralph Achterhof.

Van Kley was well known here having lived for some years on farms east of town.
